MONERO (XMR): COMPLETE PRIVATE USAGE GUIDE

This guide covers how to acquire and use Monero (XMR) in the most privacy-preserving manner possible. Monero is the cryptocurrency of choice on DrugHub Market due to its mandatory privacy guarantees. Following this guide correctly will help you maintain financial anonymity.

STEP 1 — SET UP A MONERO WALLET

  • Open-source, audited desktop wallet
  • Works natively over Tor (built-in)
  • No account or KYC required

  • Verify download signature before installing
ALTERNATIVE: OFFICIAL GUI WALLET
  • Official Monero Project GUI wallet
  • Full node or remote node options
  • Download: getmonero.org
  • Always verify PGP signature of installer
  • Use with own node for maximum privacy
NEVER use exchange-based wallets (Binance, Kraken, etc.) — they are custodial, KYC-linked, and log all transactions.

STEP 2 — BUY XMR WITHOUT KYC

  1. LocalMonero (now closed — use alternatives) — P2P XMR trades, formerly the gold standard
  2. Bisq — Decentralised exchange, no KYC, supports XMR/BTC pairs. bisq.network
  3. Haveno-Reto — Monero-native decentralised exchange. reto.haveno.exchange
  4. Cash-to-XMR ATMs — Bitcoin ATMs accepting cash exist in many cities. Buy BTC with cash → swap to XMR via non-KYC exchange (FixedFloat, eXch)
  5. P2P in person — Trade cash for XMR directly with a known person
  6. Mining — Mine XMR on your own hardware; coins have no purchase history
Buying XMR on KYC exchanges (Coinbase, Binance) creates a permanent financial trail. Even if you transfer to a self-custodied wallet, the withdrawal is logged.

STEP 3 — MAXIMISE PRIVACY WHEN SENDING

  • Always send XMR from your own wallet, never directly from an exchange
  • Use Feather Wallet's built-in Tor routing for all wallet connections
  • Never reuse receiving addresses (Monero generates new ones automatically)
  • Wait at least 10 confirmations before considering a transaction final
  • Use a subaddress when depositing to a marketplace — never the primary address
